自由基研究學(xué)會(huì) (SFRR, Society for Free Radical Research)
【組織簡(jiǎn)介】
The Society for Free Radical Research (SFRR) is dedicated to promote interest in all aspects of research related to Free Radicals in any scientific endeavour. The frontiers of this exciting area were first charted by an eclectic group of synthetic organic chemists, esr spectroscopists, radiation chemists and biochemists. Over the last few years they have been fortunate to witness a widespread recognition of the important role free radicals play in all their endeavours including diseases such as atherosclerosis and the inexorable process of ageing. The Society plays a central role in maintaining this pioneering spirit by providing a forum through its newsletters and regular conferences for scientists to meet, share the latest ideas and, hopefully, shape the future. The European branch of the Society is a registered charity and run by a committee which is elected by the membership to serve a two year term.

The Society consists of four regional groups to which any individual can belong: The European Region, the Americas or "The Oxygen Society", the Australasian region, and The Asian Region. Overseeing the activities of all the regions is "The Society for Free Radical Research International" to which all members automatically belong when they join a region and is run by a committee comprised of four officers, elected by the World-wide membership, plus two representatives from each regional group.

The advantages of membership of SFRR Europe are:
Receipt of the Journal Free Radical Research, the official journal of SFRR Europe, that will include a regular newsletter. This will contain details of
(i) review articles of general interest:
(ii) forthcoming Society meetings
(iii) notices and reports of other meetings
(iv) new books on free radicals and related areas.

Participation in regular Society Meetings, with reduced registration for members.

Participation at Biannual General Meetings of the Society. The tenth Biannual Meeting will be held in Kyoto. Japan in the year 2000.

Reduced subscription rates for Free Radical Biology & Medicine (further info from the publisher)

Support for young scientists to attend international meetings. "

Historical Notes
The Inaugural Meeting of the Society was held at The Royal Institution, London on 9 July 1982.

At the First Biennial Meeting, held at Brunel University in September 1982, the name Society for Free Radical Research was adopted (preferred by ballot to The Antioxidant Society), a Constitution agreed, and a President (Chairman )and Officers and Committee elected.

The SFRR logo (designed by Brian Bandy),was chosen by ballot at the Second Biennial General Meeting held in York, England, in 1984.

To accommodate the ever increasing size of the Society, in 1988 in Kyoto, a new Constitution was proposed, and the autonomous regional groups: SFRR (Asia), SFRR (Australasia) and SFRR (Europe), inaugurated. The Oxygen Society, founded in the USA in 1987, agreed to become a constituent member of SFRR, retaining its own name and constitution, but becoming also de facto SFRR (Americas).

粘膜免疫學(xué)會(huì)
【組織簡(jiǎn)介】
The Society for Mucosal Immunology includes more than 700 members from 37 countries. There is approximately an equal representation of clinician-scientists and basic scientists comprised of immunologists, physicians, dentists, veterinarians, biochemists and others interested in the immunology of the gastrointestinal, respiratory and urogential tracts as well as the eye. Areas of research interest include the pathogenesis of mucosal inflammation such as inflammatory bowel disease, oral vaccination, the immunology of breast milk, oral tolerance - in particular as it is applied as a treatment for autoimmune diseases, vaccines for birth control as well as the immunobiology of infections such as HIV, respiratory syntial virus, influenza, rotavirus, Helicobacter pylori and many others.

Membership in the Society entitles one to a free subscription to Mucosal Immunology Update, various member services and discounts on registration for any International Congress of Mucosal Immunology sponsored by the Society.

There is one type of Membership that is open to all scientists with an interest in mucosal immunology and who participate actively in this field.

【組織簡(jiǎn)介】
"To be at the forefront of chemical engineering as a leading international body qualifying, serving and representing chemical engineers and promoting the advancement of the discipline." -- The IChemE Vision

The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) was founded in 1922 as a qualifying and professional body for chemical engineers. These original roles, and the accompanying one of a learned society, have continuously expanded and today IChemE has a membership approaching 25,000 in number.

Worldwide representation
Of the total membership, over 25% are based outside the UK. IChemE membership supports chemical engineers in over 80 countries.

Library & Information Services
IChemE's Library and Information Service offers members access to both on-line and CD-ROM databases. Members may obtain photocopies of papers or request book loans.
In addition to 3,000 books, the Library holds a wealth of unpublished papers and a broad range of engineering and scientific journals.

To promote and advance their special interest areas of chemical and process engineering, both through industry and academia. To facilitate the exchange of ideas and information between people with a common interest be they engineers, scientists, academics or professionals from related disciplines. IChemE's 20 Subject Groups organise low cost technical meetings in their particular fields of expertise.

亞洲大洋洲生物化學(xué)家和分子生物學(xué)家聯(lián)合會(huì) (FAOBMB)
【組織簡(jiǎn)介】
The Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (FAOBMB) is One of four regional organisation of the International Union Of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB). The other three regional organizations being the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS), the Pan American Association for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (PABMB) and the recently organized Federation of African Societies of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (FASMB). Each plays an important role in stimulating international cooperation between different national biochemical and molecular biological societies.

The Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists (FAOB) was jointly founded on 1 August 1972 by the Australian Biochemical Society, the Society of Biological Chemists (India) and the Japanese Biochemical Society to promote the development of biochemistry in the Asian and Pacific region. the Federation became officially incorporated as a tax-exempt association (FAOB, Inc,) in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on 8 December 1992 and undertook a change in name to Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (FAOBMB), incorporated on 7 December 1993. FAOBMB is an Associate Organization of the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB), with which it actively collaborates. The Federation's logo, adopted in 1989 and modified in 1993 to include the change in name, reflects the dynamic nature of the FAOBMB and the continual flow of information of biochemistry between members, which consists of countries in both the Asian and Pacific region.

FAOBMB is probably one of the first scientific associations focused solely on the Asian-Pacific region, which has become such an important force in the world economy. Its membership grew rapidly , and by 1997, FAOBMB had 12 Constituent Members, some formed as Groups rather than full-fledged Societies, so undoubtedly FAOBMB has played an important catalytic role in stimulating the association of biochemists in countries of our region. Presently, FAOBMB has 19 Constituent Members representing more than 18,000 biochemists (Table 1), constituting a sizable fraction of the total biochemists in the world. As can be see, membership of FAOBMB spans very large distances geographically, and covers not only a range of ethnic groups but also a wide spectrum in academic capability and manpower resources. For example, the largest society has some 10,000 biochemists and has been in existence for more than 60 years, while the smallest group(s) have only 10-20 members and have been in existence for le ss than 5 years.
