Crown ethers have become essential tools in Organic Chemistry, from catalytic[1] to bioactive[2] units. Recently, stimulus-responsive materials have attracted much attention.[3] In this context, we will present new macrocyclic receptors[4] whose coordination properties are switched on and off using pH. The discussion will focus on the efficient synthesis of two new types of ligands, their pH response and their selectivity within the alkali earth ion family.
