ABSTRACT:
The polylactide (PLA) composites containing graphene nanosheets were prepared by the approach of solution mixing for the crystallization study. The results reveal that graphene nanosheets are well distributed in the PLA matrix, leading to evident viscosity increase despite their dispersion as multilayered structure in stacks form. Both the cold and melt crystallization behaviors of PLA depend strongly on the presence of graphene nanosheets. During cold crystallization, graphene nanosheets can merely act as inert filler, and the increased viscosity results in decrease of overall crystallization rate of composite relative to the neat PLA. However, the graphene nanosheets can act as heterogeneous nucleating agent, which is a dominant role during melt crystallization. As a result, the composite show the higher crystallization rate than that of the neat PLA.
